Rainstorm

by Paula Gil-Ordoñez Gomez

Toes tapping to the rhythm

Of thunder shouting

Pushing neighboring trees

To crack and crumble

Sometimes I understand

Those branches laying

Defeated on my doorstep

Fractured and fragile

Snapped into twigs

Crushed under careless feet

But tonight

I feel whole

Like the trunk two doors down

Refusing the wind’s shoves
